If you prefer a one on one learning experience at your own pace, we offer IKO certified private instruction for snowkiters beginning through advanced. These private lessons available by the hour with a 2 hr minimum.

Introduction to Snowkite Piloting

Learning basic kite piloting is key to becoming a good kiter. Snowkiting is 90% kite piloting (steering) and 10% board skills. This 1 hr trainer kite lesson will teach proper piloting and will also get you more comfortable with the pull of these powerful large kites.

Snowkiting is great for all ages 12-80. For those that may be unsure about whether or not snowkiting is for them, this lesson is a great way to give it a try and at the same time learn more about this exciting and fast-growing sport.

In this 1 hour introduction to snowkiting lesson you will learn how to set up and correctly pilot a 2 or 3 line airfoil Trainer Kite. You will also learn about site and safety awareness, basic snowkiting wind theory, launching and landing proceedures and power management techniques. Our IKO certified instructors will be happy to answer any questions about the sport and set up a personal training plan.

At the end of this lesson you will be able to practice properly with your own trainer kite. This practice will help you build a great foundation and may make the transition to larger 4 line kite piloting easier. After this lesson you may also want to sign up for the snowkiting Level I-III Beginner lessons. Proper instruction and continuing to practice soon after are vital when learning this sport.

Learn to Snowkite in 3 Hours

This 3 hour lesson plan is designed to get you snowkiting quickly by combining our Level I and II lessons in on day.  Our goal as an IKO center is that you become a safe and independent snowkiter. This lesson will give you the fundementals needed for that provided you are at least an intermediate skier or snowboarder.

Snowkiting is great for all ages 12-80. For those that may be unsure about whether or not snowkiting is for them, this lesson is a great way to give it a try and at the same time learn more about this exciting and fast-growing sport.

You will be learning about the gear right form the start of this lesson. After we all get to know each other a little you will start by getting on your safety gear and a waist harness and then you will prepare to fly a 4 line inflatable kite.

During Level I you will learn:

  • About the IKO.
  • That snowkiting is safe, easy and fun to learn.
  • How to inflate and set up a 4 line kite.
  • How to lay out and walk your lines on snow.
  • To rig your kite and secure it on snow or ice.
  • To use and reset the safety systems.
  • Basic snowkiting wind theory.
  • Site and Safety awareness.
  • Launchsite etiquette.
  • To perform an assisted launch and landing.
  • Proper piloting techniques.
  • Power management techniques.
  • One handed piloting.
  • Self landing
  • Kite recovery techniques.
  • That you are really going to love snowkiting.
  • That you should've taken a KGB Kiteboarding lesson sooner.

During Level II you will learn:

  • How to set up your skis or board for riding.
  • Self launching and landing techniques x3.
  • Starting and Stopping
  • Edging and turning
  • How to go uphill/kite loops.
  • Rules of the road.
  • Advanced site awareness.
  • Advanced mountain wind/weather effects.
  • About the gear you will need to get.
  • What and where to practice next.
  • That snowkiters are cool.

At the end of this 3 hr lesson most students are ready to get all the kiting gear needed to start praticing independently. Some students do however desire or require further instruction. For those we recommend our Level III snowkiting lesson or possibly some private instruction. Proper instruction and continuing to practice soon thereafter are vital when learning this sport.

Our goal as an IKO center is that you become a safe and independent snowkiter. This lesson will give you the fundementals needed for that provided you are at least an intermediate skier or snowboarder .

This 1.5 hour group lesson plan is designed to get you get you up and riding. Our goal as an IKO center is that you become a safe and independent snowkiter. This lesson is for students that are at least an intermediate skier or snowboarder. Completion of our KGB Level I snowkiting lesson is a prerequisite for this lesson.

Level III Snowkiting

This 1.5 hour lesson is designed to get you up and riding in both directions, upwind, posibly jumping and to fine tune your previously learned snowkiting skills. Our goal as an IKO center is that you become a safe and independent kiteboarder. This lesson is for students that have completed the prerequesite KGB Level I and Level II snowkiting lessons.

During Level III you will learn:

  • To perfect your kite control skills.
  • Advanced snowkiting techniques/kite loops
  • How to snowkite upwind in both directions.
  • Stance and edging techniques.
  • How to jump and land it.
  • What and where to practice next.

At the end of this lesson most students are snowkiting independently and are able to get all their own snowkiting gear. Some students do however desire or require further instruction. For those we recommend our private snowkiting instruction.

Water to Snow Transition

1.5 hr Water to Snow transition lessons are very affordable and designed to give experienced water kiters the essential snow specific skills needed to snowkite safely and independently. Snowkiting is inherently much more dangerous than water kiting so these snow specific techniques taught during this lesson are essential to get you riding and progressing on snow quickly and with a minimum of personal risk.

Participants in these lessons are required to practice with their own kite gear, skis-poles and /or snowboards. School kites are available for use during these lessons for an additional $35 rental fee.

These transition lessons can be tailored to your needs. To participate kiters must be at least IKO level 3 (independent kiter) or above.
